Obituary of William Leon Baker
William Leon Baker of Ellettsville, IN passed away in the VA Hospital in Indianapolis on October 17, 2012 with his family by his side. Leon was born in Bloomington to the late Roy and Fern (Fowler) Baker. He was a 1946 graduate of Bloomington High School and he was also a WWII Army Air Corp veteran. Leon co-owned Jackson and Baker Painting and Decorating where he served an elite clientele in the Monroe County area. He was also an avid outdoorsman, race fan and loved competitive sports. Leon was a member of The American Legion Post 18, a life member of the National Rifle Association and the ILA. Leon married Colleen M. Day who predeceased Leon in death in 2003. Leon is survived by his seven children; Blithe Ann Egan, William Cole Baker, Brett (Vicki) Orin Baker, Danell Sue Olson, Alva (Tana) Quinton Baker, Clint Aaron Baker, Coy (Joan) A. Baker, 13 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister; Stella Eads and his brother; Paul Baker. Leon was preceded in death by his brother; Herman Baker and his sister Barbara Kilgore. Friends may call on Monday, October 22, 2012 from 4- 8 p.m. in Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene & Harrell Chapel, 700 W. Gourley Pike, Bloomington, IN 47404. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service also in the funeral home. Burial in Valhalla Memory Gardens with the Monroe County Honor Guard performing military rites.
