Obituary of Robert D'Angio Jr.
Robert D’Angio Jr. of Crozet, VA passed away suddenly on November 27, 2018. Bob was born May 20, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York and received a B. S. degree from St. John's University. At St. John's Bob was an active member of Phi Kappa Tau and met his beloved wife Phyllis. Phyllis and Bob were married for 48 years before her passing in 2014 (Phyllis often said they were married for 24 years as “every other day was good!”). They had three children, Jennifer, Peter, Jessica and 8 grandchildren. Bob and Phyllis raised their family in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY. Bob’s early career included a stint at Irving Trust in New York City, but he wanted to spend more time with his young family and continued his career at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) located on Long Island. Bob was the Manager of BNL’s Human Resources Department for 23 years. With an expertise in delivering human resources solutions at a scientific institution, Bob moved to Charlottesville, VA where he worked at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) located on the campus of the University of Virginia. Bob thoroughly enjoyed his time at NRAO where he met great friends and traveled from the mountains of Chile to the mesas of New Mexico. Bob was a dedicated family man and cherished time with his wife and kids. His friends were important and enriched his life. He was a responsible man with a tremendous work ethic, but understood working hard and having fun were not mutually exclusive. Bob is survived by his brother Dr. Richard D’Angio and other family and friends including Vicki Sontag, Barbara and Bill Kelly, Cheryl Ann and Mike Thompson, Rich and Lynda Kramps and his partner Margaret Rice who has been his great solace these past 3 years. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019, at 1pm, at Holy Comforter Catholic Church, 208 E Jefferson St, Charlottesville, VA 22902. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Charlottesville Ronald McDonald House.
