Betty L. Thralls Randall, 85, of Columbus, died at 9:24 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at Four Seasons Health Center. She was born in Shelbyville March 28, 1927, the daughter of Arthur Stephan Thralls and Lena Fox Thralls. She is survived by her husband, Maurice D. “Mac” Randall, who she married Aug. 12, 1956, at her parent’s home in Shelbyville; her sister, Estolle Gross; a nephew, Charles J. (Diane) Gross, Chalfont; and a niece, Madalene (Bobby) Roberts, Columbus. She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sisters. Betty was a member of Bartholomew County Retired Teachers Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Kappa Gamma Lady Teachers Society, Columbus Star Quilters, Kappa Kappa Sigma, Camp Atterbury Veterans Memorial Association, Shelby County Historical Society, and First United Methodist Church in Columbus since 1957. She was a former member of Daughters of the Union. She had received the Indiana Commendation Medal from Major General Martin Umbarger, Adjutant General of Indiana, for her work with the Camp Atterbury Museum. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1945, from DePauw University with a BA degree in 1949, and from Indiana University with an MA degree in 1958. Betty taught Junior and Senior High School at Lucerne High School, New Palestine High School, Franklin Township High School, Martinsville Senior High School, Central High School, and Columbus High School, and retired from Northside Junior High School, now Northside Middle School in Columbus, in 1980. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling or funeral services. A private family service will be directed later by Myers-Reed Chapel with Rev. Chris Lantz officiating. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Four Seasons Employee Fund or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
