Obituary of Herschel E. Whipker

Herschel E. Whipker, 90 of South Road 250 East, died at 6:45 P.M., Saturday, October 16, 2010 at his home. Mr. Whipker was born in Columbus, IN. on April 21, 1920, the son of the late Elmer and Beryl Talley Whipker. He married Emma May “Bee” Harrell in Columbus, IN. on August 29, 1964 and she preceded him in death on November 15, 1993. Mr. Whipker was a World War II United States Army Veteran. He was a retired farmer and owned his own farm. He also had worked at Vernco and Hamilton many years ago. Mr. Whipker was a former member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clifty. He enjoyed fox hunting. The funeral service celebrating the life of Mr. Whipker will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th St. with Robert E. Lay officiating. Calling hours will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday and from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Daugherty Cemetery with military rites presented by members of the Indiana Army National Guard Honor Guard in conjunction with the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Elizabethtown Fire Department or to the Columbus Township Fire Department. Mr. Whipker is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Adkins of Columbus, IN.; a son, Henry (Kathleen) Whipker of Columbus, IN.; five brothers, Harry T., Bennie K., David, Elmer and Alan Whipker all of Columbus, IN.; two sisters, Margaret Volland of Columbus, IN. and Elizabeth McKinney of Texas; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
