Obituary of Norbert E. Herrmann

Norbert E. Herrmann, 92, died Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at his home. Mr. Herrmann began his career in Indianapolis at Bell Telephone Company. He was then employed by Cosco where he held various marketing and sales positions. He later formed his own sales company and represented several foundries and related industries. Funeral service will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Saturday Myers~Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private entombment will be held at Garland Brook Mausoleum. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.myers-reed.com. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church Foundation or The Alzheimer’s Association. He graduated from Indiana University in 1948 where he played varsity basketball. He was recruited to IU by basketball coach Harry Good in 1944, and played for both Good and Branch McCracken. He was one of the first athletes in the Big Ten to receive four varsity letters in basketball following World War II during freshman eligibility. He continued his interest in the University through the Alumni Association and "I" Men's Association, serving as board member of the Alumni Asspciation, and "I" Men's president for three years. A member of Grace Lutheran Church, Mr. Herrmann was a leader in various education programs; he also served as elder for many years. He was born in Brownstown, Indiana on August 26, 1926, son of Theodore and Augusta Kirchner Herrmann. He married Deloris (Dee) Dyer December 15, 1956 at Valparaiso, IN. Survivors include wife, Deloris M. (Dee) Herrmann of Columbus; sons, J. Eric (Lorrie) Herrmann, Columbus; Mark A. Herrmann, Bloomington, IN; grandchildren, Timothy A. Herrmann and Jennifer E. Herrmann. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Waldo and Paul Herrmann; sisters, Terry Saez and Rhoda Herrmann, and an infant twin son, Timothy D. Herrmann.
