Obituary of Sarah “Sally” H. Frost
Sarah (“Sally”) H. Frost, 97, died on February 5, 2023, in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on February 15, 1925, to LeRoy L. Harding and May D. Harding (nee Brinckerhoff) in Utica, New York. Sally was the loving mother of Frances Braine (deceased), Bruce (Anne Kilkenny) Braine and Geoffrey (Sandy) Braine and loving stepmother of Laurie (Jack) Davis, Ted (Becky) Frost Jr., Tim Frost and Jon Frost. She was also proud grandmother of Kathleen Braine, Maryanne Braine, Antonio Braine, Blake Davis, Kirby Davis and Alyssa Frost, and great grandmother of Fern Frost. In addition to her parents and daughter, Sally was preceded in death by her first husband John (“Jack”) Braine, her second husband Edward (“Ted”) Frost, and her two sisters, Virginia Lowery and Lowerre Simsarian. Sally attended Vassar College, where she was elected class president, graduating in 1946. She then moved to New York City, where she met Jack Braine. They were married in 1949 and had three children. During the 1970s, Sally received her Master’s degree in Education from Bank Street College in New York, later teaching at the West Village Nursery School. After Jack’s death in 1976, Sally married Ted Frost in 1980 and moved to Shaker Heights, Ohio. In addition to teaching and raising her children, Sally was an active volunteer working for numerous organizations during her life. This included volunteering at Planned Parenthood, teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) and volunteering on several political campaigns. Sally also worked for the Legal Aid Society in New York in the late 1970s. Most notably, Sally had more than a decade of service at the Cleveland Clinic where she worked with cardiac patients and was a nominee for the Humanitarian Award in 2002. Even in her early 90s, Sally was her floor representative at Judson Park in Cleveland, and read to and comforted residents in hospice care. Sally loved to travel and to explore other parts of the world. She enjoyed musicals and plays, and attended many performances over the years, particularly during her time in New York. She loved art and going to galleries and museums. Most of all, Sally had a passion for learning and she was an avid reader of both history and fiction. In Cleveland, she belonged to the academic nonfiction book group Interfolio, and she participated in many book clubs throughout her life. Sally was curious, humble and kind and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her warmth and genuine interest in other people left a lasting impression on everyone, even those who met her only once. Memorial service will be held at 1 PM on April 29 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Cleveland Clinic, or the charity of your choice.
