Obituary of Chester C. Burton, Sr
Chester C. Burton, Sr., 84, of Connersville, died Friday morning, January 4, 2013, at Lincoln Centers-East surrounded by his family. Chester was born July 22, 1928 in Pike County to Chester Arthur and Ella June Barger Burton. In 1947, he graduated from Decker High School and attended Vincennes University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War where he served as a cryptotechnician. Chester also served in the U.S. Army Reserves for ten years attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. On April 2, 1954, he was married in Vincennes to the former Wanda L. Woodward who died August 24, 2009. They moved to Connersville in 1964 where Chester was reassigned in his position with Western-Southern Insurance. Chester retired from White Consolidated and its predecessor, Design and Manufacturing, after twenty-seven years of service. He had also sold cars at Morgan, Hunter and Vakoc Auto Sales, all in Connersville and was employed at Stop 1 Truck Stop near Cambridge City. He was a former member of the Men’s Democrat Club, AMVETS, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. In his leisure time, Chester enjoyed trading many items including knives and watches. Chester is survived by his children and their spouses: Marcia Crabtree and Lester of Liberty; Danny R Burton, Sr. and Pamela J. of Everton; Chester C. Burton, Jr. and Sandy of Connersville; his grandchildren: Michelle Presson and her companion, Chad Hamblin of Liberty; Danny Burton, Jr. of Brownsburg; Amanda Burton and her companion, Ryan Spears of Newark, Ohio; Lynn Faw and Craig of Peoria, Illinois; Jeremy Crabtree and Lindsey of Liberty; Matthew Burton of Connersville; Sally Potters of Glendale, California; great-grandchildren: Keith, Jr., Dylan and Leslie Presson; C.J. Caldwell; Taylor and Devin Faw; Chloe Ann Crabtree; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Chester was preceded in death by his son: Timothy Lee Burton and his step-father, James Lee Catt, who raised him; his twin brother: Lester Lloyd Burton and a grandson-in-law, Keith Presson. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where memorial contributions may be made to Indiana University Alzheimer Research.
