Milburn Darrell Baker Sr.

Milburn Darrell Baker, Sr., 76, of Connersville, died Thursday morning, July 7, 2011, at his residence.
Milburn was a native of Alderson, West Virginia, born February 6, 1935 to Curtis Noel and Frankie P. Kincaid Baker. Following his graduation in 1952 from Rupert High School in West Virginia, he entered the U.S. Air Force. Milburn attained the rank of Technical Sergeant after two active tours and a five year stint in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He had been employed for 22 years at the Connersville Post Office, retiring in 1990. Milburn enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and hunting. In his leisure time, he liked to attend auctions and yard sales.
Milburn is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, the former Lois I. Fowler whom he married July 20, 1956 in Connersville; a daughter: Cheryl L. Baker of Alexandria, Kentucky; a brother and sister-in-law: Curtis M. and Helen I. Baker of Connersville; a sister: Wilma Claudette Hayes of York, South Carolina; two grandchildren: Ryan Pope of Connersville and his fiancé, Esther Bard, Mendy Baker Rose and her husband, Justin of Connersville; four great-grandchildren: Hayllie Nicholle Pope, Ashlyn Michelle Pope, Sierra Rose and Justin Rose, Jr.; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Milburn was preceded in death by his son, Milburn Darrell Baker, Jr., who died March 18, 2005; a grandson: Timothy Christopher Baker; a brother: Maynard Baker and three sisters: Rosella DeNichola, Macel Ashcraft and Willa Paulette Hayes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor David Pinter of the Community Gospel Church officiating.. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society.
