Obituary of Gail Louise Schmoll Leeds
Gail Louise Leeds of Culpeper, Virginia, died in her home, surrounded by family on March 28, 2018. She was 94 years old. Gail is survived by her children and their spouses, Markey Willis and her husband Jere of Culpeper, Virginia, and Philip Leeds and his wife Heidi of Jackson, Wyoming. She was treasured by her four grandchildren, Allison Willis Harmon and her husband Anthony of Charlottesville, Virginia, Josh Willis and his fiancé Jaky Barraza Vargas of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Ellery C. Leeds of Jackson, Wyoming and Hayden S. C. Leeds of Portland, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert Schmoll. Gail was born February 6, 1924 to Grover Schmoll and Emma Meyer Schmoll in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri with a Degree in Occupational Therapy and moved to Los Angeles, California. She later relocated to San Francisco and earned a graduate degree in education. She loved her career as an elementary school teacher in Marin County, California until she retired. Upon her retirement, she relocated to Culpeper, Virginia to be near her daughter Markey and her family. While living in Culpeper, she pursued her passion for painting and traveled the world with her sketchbook and easel in hand. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the camaraderie of a spirited game regularly with her close friends. Gail relished the beauty of our National Parks from sea to sea.
