Obituary of A. Byrdell Byrdell Martin
A. Byrdell Martin, 81, of Evansville, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. She was born January 19, 1932, in Vanderburgh County. Byrdell’s first job after high school was as a secretary with the EVSC. She then graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing, Indiana University and Emory University where she attained a Master’s Degree. Following her education, Byrdell started as a nurse at Deaconess Hospital. She became a school nurse for the EVSC and retired years later as the Supervisor of EVSC Nurses. She was a very active member of Centenary United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there for over 50 years. She was extremely active at work, church, and in professional organizations. Helping others was an important part of her character. Byrdell was seldom home and when she was, she was often in the midst of planning for ways she could care for and brighten the lives of others. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Albinus and Dorothy Martin. Byrdell is survived by her brothers, Donald Martin and wife, Dorothy, and Darwin Martin and wife, Geraldine; sister, Melba DeMuth and husband, Dan, all of Evansville; eight nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 14340 Old State Road, officiated by Reverend Daniel Walker, with burial in Centenary Church Cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander North Chapel and Tuesday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church.
