Obituary of Alice "Janie" Kempf Altman
Alice “Janie” Altman, 73, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010, surrounded by her family at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born April 6, 1936, in Schnellville, IN. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and a true friend who touched the life of each person she met. She dedicated her life to caring for her autistic son, Dean, and was the cornerstone of her family and the glue that held it together. As one of 11 children, she was the sister who everyone turned to for guidance, love and support. She surrounded her children and grandchildren with constant love, which they will carry in their hearts forever. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling and graduated from Birdseye High School in 1954. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Henrietta Kempf; and brothers, Bob, Richie and CJ Kempf. She is survived by her loving husband, Charlie, they would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 25th; son, Dean Altman; daughters, Kathy Altman and Karen Angermeier and her husband, Tom; grandsons, John Ringwall and Nicholas Angermeier; granddaughters, Julianne Ringwall and Allyson Angermeier, all of Evansville; sisters, Evelyn Hastell of Centerville, Ohio, Betty Boeglin of Ferdinand, IN and Nancy Herzog of Jasper, IN; and brothers, Denny Kempf of Tipp City, OH, Harold Kempf of Schnellville, IN, Earl Kempf of Kutawa, KY and Tom Kempf of Sellersburg, IN. Mass services will be 12:00 PM Saturday, March 6, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 607 East Iowa Street, officiated by Fr. Gene Schroeder and Jean Vogler with entombment at Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, with a memorial service at 6:00 PM, where friends and family are encouraged to celebrate Janie’s life by sharing their memories and stories. Friends may also visit Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 AM, with a prayer service at 11:30 AM at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff of the St. Mary’s Emergency Room and ICU Unit. Memorial contributions may be made to Evansville ARC Work Services Program at P.O.
