Benjamin F. Hanebutt, 95, of Evansville, IN passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Evansville on March 25, 1923 to the late John and Matilda Hanebutt.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1114 and American Legion #8. Ben worked as a mechanic at Signal Delivery for 22 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lena; and sister, Violet.
Ben is survived by daughter, Janis Sharp (Tom); son, John Hanebutt (Judy); grandchildren, Jessica Winstead (Michael), Cory Sharp (Jennie), Kyle Hanebutt (Carrie), Ryan Hanebutt; 7 great-grandchildren; and brother, Palmer Hanebutt (Norma).
Friends may visit 3-8 PM on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Alexander West Chapel and 10-11 AM on Friday at Alexander Memorial Park Heritage Chapel where Ben will be entombed. The Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct military services at 11:00 AM on Friday at the cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 1114.
