Obituary of Harry M. "Mack" Brown
Harry M. "Mack" Brown, 88, of Evansville, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014, at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. He was born May 29, 1925, in Evansville, to the late Harvey and Blanche Brown. He worked at Whirlpool in inventory control for 28 years, retiring in 1984. Harry was a veteran of the United States Army and participated in the D-Day Invasion at Utah Beach. He was injured in combat on June 14, 1944, for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. After recovering from the injury, he was assigned position of MP on the Red Ball Express. Harry received an honorable discharge in August 1946. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Whirlpool Retirees' Club, past president of the Northside Chapter of AARP and a brother in the UCT Fraternity. Mack loved spending time with family and friends. Awaiting him in Heaven are his wife of 64 years, Alice Jeanette Brown, who passed in January 2013 and his daughter, Janice Lynn, who passed in 1954. Harry is survived by his daughters, Janet Brown of Evansville and Jane (Jerry) Smith, of Lakeland, FL; grandsons, Matt (Melissa) Gossman of Grand Rapids, MI and Eric (Rema) Gossman of Vancouver, WA; three grandchildren, Olivia, Owen and Marcie; brother, Curtis (Jackie) Brown of Kimball, NE; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Lynn Marino. Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Dr. William Hardesty, Dr. Muhammad Habib, and the caring and compassionate staff at Deaconess Hospice Care Center for helping Harry's transition from this world to the next with love, respect and dignity.
