Jack R. Couts

Jack R. Couts, 77, of Evansville, passed away Monday, March 17, 2014, at his home. He was born May 4, 1936 in Oakland City, Indiana to the late Charles and Minnie E. (Mason) Couts.
He was a US Navy Veteran serving from 1955-1959. Jack retired after 21 years with AMF/Roadmaster in Olney, Illinois. He then moved to Evansville and retired from Shoe Carnival as a Warehouse Supervisor. Jack was a member of North Park Baptist Church and was an ordained Deacon at the church. At 70, he taught himself how to quilt and made quilts for all 11 grandchildren. He loved traveling and after retirement he traveled with his wife through 48 states, Canada, and Mexico in their travel trailer being towed by their pickup truck.
Jack was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth, George and Charles Robert Couts; and sister, Mary Hunley.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Anita (Fiscus) Couts; daughters, Monica Howser, Diane (Mike) Payne, Leslie (Bradley) Schaefer all of Evansville; sons, Timothy (Cheryl) Karns of League City, TX, Daniel (Karla) Karns of Milwaukie, OR; grandsons, Bryant Payne, Travis and Scott Karns and Joshua, Aaron, and Andrew Schaefer; granddaughters, Danelle Howser, Sarah, Lauren and Brittany Karns, and Felicity Schaefer; sisters, Louella Wellmeyer of Holland, IN and Margaret Rothrock of Winslow, IN; brother, Paul Couts of Oakland City; brother-in-law, Harold (Diana) Fiscus; 15 nephews and three nieces.
Services will be 10 AM Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Alexander North Chapel officiated by Rev. Dan Sigler. Friends may visit Wednesday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
