Joseph “Joe” A. Curl, 84, of Evansville, passed away Monday, November 11, 2013, at Deaconess Hospital. He was born March 27, 1929, in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Shirley Francis and Apphia (Ayer) Curl.
He was a US Army Veteran and served from 1946 to 1950 in Japan. He worked at Servel, Indiana Industries and retired from Whirlpool after 38 years of employment. After retirement he worked part-time at Lefler’s Body Shop and spent 20 years with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Reserve Deputy Department. He was a life member of VFW Post #1114 and a member of Westside Sportsman Club, Isaac Walton Club, the NRA, was past president of the Evansville Citizen’s Radio League and was a Deacon at First Christian Church in Mount Vernon.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Shirley M. Curl; and sisters, Elizabeth J. Curl and Virginia L. Key.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann E. (Tucker) Curl; sons, Bob (Donna Jo) Curl of Evansville and Edward J. (Linda) Curl of Newburgh; daughter, Jo Ann (Vince) Stone of Evansville; grandchildren, Donna (Chris) Jones, Robert (April) Curl, Becky Curl and Joe Curl; six great-grandchildren; brothers, David L. Curl of Evansville and Roger D. Curl of Peru, IN; several close friends that became family; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 15, 2013, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. John Hilbert, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
