Obituary of Marlys R Carnes
Marlys Rae (Lund) Carnes, 87, passed away in the early hours of 10 Apr 2018 at Riverpointe Health Campus in Evansville, IN. She was born 14 Dec 1930 in Hayward, WI, to Borghild Constance (Hanson) and Christian Lund; was a graduate of Hayward Free High School (1948) and the Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing (1951) in Minneapolis, MN. Her first nursing job took her to Denver, CO, where she worked as an operating room nurse at Denver General Hospital. It was in Denver she met the love of her life, Paul Carnes. Thoroughly smitten with each other, Marlys and Paul married, moved to Evansville, IN, and raised five happy children. Marlys was an active member of the Evansville community; a member of Bethel UCC and St. John’s East; and attended Christian Fellowship Church and Crossroads Christian Church. Her subtle, articulate sense of humor; her effortless ice skating footwork; her pleasant harmonies while singing hymns from the pews in church; all these little nuances and more will be very much missed. Her influence will long live on, as evident in the fine manner of the children and grandchildren she helped mold and in the love and devotion she received from all who were warmed by her company. She was preceded in death by her parents Borghild and Chris, of Hayward, and her brother Neilan Lund, of St. Paul, MN. She is survived by her devoted husband, soul mate and confidante of near 64 years, Paul; her children: Mark (Debbie) Carnes of Evansville; Brian Carnes of Stuart, FL; Jennifer (Mark) Dornseif of Indialantic, FL; David Carnes of Barboursville, VA; Sarah (Pat) Taylor of Zionsville, IN; her grandchildren: Justin (Kat) Carnes of Evansville; Ian Carnes of Stuart, FL; Jonathan (Anna) Dornseif of Bury St. Edmunds, UK; Chelsea (Joe) Bixby of Houston, TX; Emily Taylor of Lafayette, IN; Morgan Taylor of Zionsville, IN; and Luke Taylor of Zionsville; her great grandchildren: Audrey and Amelia Dornseif of Bury St. Edmund, UK A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, 14 April 2018 at Bethel United Church of Christ on Green River Road, with the procession immediately following to Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit from 1:00 PM until service time on Saturday, at the Church. In lieu of flowers, the Carnes family prefers you just come share your memories of Marlys with us or donate to a Bethel Charity of your choice.
