Obituary of Vincenzo Giacchina
It is with great sadness that the family of Vincent Giacchina, known to his friends as "Vinnie" announces his passing on Friday, January 18, 2019, at the age of 83 years. A native of Palermo, Sicily, Vinnie came to the United States in 1951 as a teenager of 16. He established himself in Long Island, NY until 1978 when he took his family and moved to Virginia. Vinnie was a concrete man by trade and after many years of working for Strathmore Concrete in New York, he opened his own business, Roma Concrete in Springfield, Virginia. He sold the business and began building custom houses until his retirement at age 72. He had a passion for life, was larger than life and had a love of classical Italian music which he sang daily. Anyone close to Vinnie was entertained at some time in their life by his beautiful tenor voice. The only thing Vinnie loved more than music was espresso coffee. He even took his coffee pot with him on vacations. He traveled to many beautiful destinations both here and abroad but had a special place in his heart for the island of St. Maarten. Vinnie will be sorely missed and forever remembered by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine and his children, Vincent Romano (Nino), Carlo, Sonya, Debra, Diane and Gina, his thirteen grandchildren, Patrick John (PJ), Nicholas, Melody Nicole, Chase, Nicole, Vincent, Angela, Alexandra, Dillion, Frederick, Jordan, Michael, Antonio and seven great-grandchildren Julian, Jordan, Cole, Sofia, Alexa, Natalya, Frederick and by his sisters, Giovanna and Rosalie and his brother Gaspare. Vinnie will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Vinnie to SOME (So Others Might Eat) at 71 O Street, NW, Washington, DC 20001. Donations can be made directly at their website at https://www.some.org/. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
