Edward Shapiro

EDWARD SHAPIRO Edward Shapiro passed away peacefully on October 30, 2012 in Savannah, GA. He was born on March 4,1920 and is survived by his two sons, Larry and Steve and their wives, Jolene and Patty, as well as his grandsons, Ryan Shapiro and his wife, Stephanie Bain, Paul Shapiro and his partner, Erica Meier, Aaron Brantly and his wife Nataliya; his great-grandson, Andrew Edward Brantly; his brother, Morton Shapiro and his sisters, Elsie Legum and Mildred Walker; predeceased by his brothers Herbert, Ted, Phillip, and Leon Shapiro and sister, Faye Amster. His beloved wife of 61 years, Roz, predeceased him in 2003. Ed grew up in Baltimore, MD, the middle child of 10 children, married his wife, Roz in 1941 and immediately went off to serve in the Mighty Eighth Air Force in WWII. After the war he moved to Washington, DC to join his brother Ted in the grocery business. Soon thereafter he opened his own grocery store, the Washington Circle Market, six blocks from the White House, which he owned and operated for 27 years with the help of Roz. In 1975, he sold the market and he and Roz reinvented themselves in the real estate business, where they were very successful agents known as the "action team", often being the top agents in the Long and Foster Cabin John, MD office. Approaching his late eighties, Ed moved to Savannah, GA where his son, Steve, and wife Patty, both doctors, watched over him carefully during his last years. He was visited often by Jolene and Larry, as well as his grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Congregation Beth El in Bethesda, MD, with family and friends invited to the home of Jolene and Larry Shapiro immediately following the service and for Shiva on Saturday , evening.
