April 7, 1941 – July 29, 2018
IN THE CARE OF
National Funeral Home & Memorial Park
Rufina Aida Lujan, surrounded by her family, earned her wings on July 29th, 2018, at Inova Fairfax Hospital after a short and strong fight against cancer.
Rufina was born on April 7th, 1941, in Lima, Peru to Vicenta and Eugenio Gonzales. After many years of working her family-owned businesses, Rufina moved from Peru to the United States in 1984. She established herself in Northern Virginia and has lived here ever since. Although she did not speak English fluently, Rufina was able to adapt to the American life and chase the American Dream in efforts to provide for her family; and in 2003, Rufina proudly became a citizen of the United States. Rufina loved this country and continued to work tirelessly as a housekeeper for many years before retiring and dedicating herself to her grandchildren.
She was well-known by many as a loving and selfless person; always willing to lend a helping a hand before helping herself. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, sightseeing around Washington, D.C, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.
Her family pays tribute to her with a few words, “Mama Aida was one of the sweetest, selfless, and gentle person you could ever meet. Her graceful presence was difficult to miss and strongly admired by many. She opened her heart to many over the years and she will be deeply missed and loved.”
Rufina is survived by her husband, siblings, daughter, son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
