Obituary of Effie "June" (Shonk) Cavender
Effie "June" Shonk Cavender, age 92, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. She was born on June 25, 1929 in Mishawaka, Indiana, the daughter of Ralph and Mabel (McCay) Shonk, who preceded her in death. June was a member of Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, Fort Wayne, where she was an active member of "Dare to Care." She and her husband spent four years as missionaries in Colombia, South America. June enjoyed playing the piano and organ. On June 25, 1947 June married Gerald Edward Cavender. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Elaine Pamela (James) Jordan of Fort Wayne, IN, Phyllis Ann (Steve) Howell of Bluffton, IN, Lynn Kathleen (Rob) Miller of Portland, OR; three sons, Allen Edward (Laura) Cavender of North Aurora, Ill, Lawrence Blake Cavender of Hernando, FL, Rodney Wayne (Patti) Cavender of Glenview, Ill; 15 grandchildren, James Jordan IV, Ruth Elaine Squires, Philip (Suzanne) Howell, Faith Anne Cavender, Sarah Abigail Cavender, Rachel Elisabeth Cavender, Luke Isaac Cavender, Noah Timothy Cavender, Gabriel Alexander Cavender, Claire Ellen Cavender, Katherine Elyse Cavender, Mathew Jacob Cavender, Joshua Robert Cavender, Pierce Robert Miller, Grant Robert Miller; and four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Jae Squires, Noah James Howell, Emily Kate Howell and Charles Ronin Price. She was preceded in death by her sister, Judy Ann Shonk of Rochester, IN. A funeral service to honor June's life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 2, 2021, at Grace Point Church of the Nazarene, 8611 Mayhew Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46835, with calling one hour prior. She will be laid to rest at I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Leiters Ford, Indiana, where Mr. and Mrs. Cavender grew up and started their family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor may be directed to Grace Point Church of the Nazarene.
