Rose Marie Gurtner

Rose Marie Gurtner, age 79, of Fremont, Indiana, passed away at her home on Saturday, March 10, 2018, with her family by her side. She was born on February 2, 1939 in Auburn, Indiana, the daughter of Jesse and Lola (Hefty) Surface. Rose graduated from Butler High School in 1957. She married Donald E. Gurtner on August 15, 1959 at the Mt. Pleasant Church, Butler, Indiana. Rose was active in the Youth for Christ in her younger years, and taught Sunday school at Mr. Zion United Methodist Church. She was a member of the County Extension Homemakers Club in Steuben County, and was president from 1981-1983, and 1998-2000. Rose and her husband Don moved to Steuben County in 1961, and lived in Pleasant Lake, and Fremont, through the years. Rose and Don spend their lifetime having a family farm. Survivors include her husband, Donald Gurtner of Fremont, Indiana, her children, Duane Gurtner of Ashley, Indiana, Dwight (Carey) Gurtner of Fremont, Indiana, and Darrel (Tracy) Gurtner of Wolcottville, Indiana, her former-daughter-law, Tawnya Gurtner of Angola, Indiana, six grandchildren, Brigham (Jennifer) Gurtner, Tiffany (Travis) Burkhart, Amber (Aaron) Lamble, Kyle Gurtner, Austin Gurtner, and Lucas Gurtner, three great-grandchildren, Clara Rose Burkhart, Cooper James Burkhart, and Emmett James Lamble, brothers, Jerry (Sue) Surface of Auburn, Indiana, Harold (Ruthann) Surface of Auburn, Indiana, Steve (Toni) Surface of Auburn, Indiana, and Fred (Pat) Surface of Auburn, Indiana, brothers-in-law, John (Marilyn) Gurtner of Waterloo, Indiana, Larry (Phyllis) Gurtner of Auburn, Indiana, and Frank “Pete” Miller, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Shirley Miller. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Friday, March 16, 2018 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana, with Evangelist Scott Saltsman and Pastor Mark Eicher officiating. Burial will follow the services at Jamestown Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana Memorial donations in her memory are requested to Cameron Hospice, Angola, Indiana.
