Donald Austin Hess
August 2, 1938 – March 25, 2018

Donald A. Hess, 79, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018.
Born August 2, 1938 in Indianapolis, the son of Robert C. and Mary E. (Campbell) Hess.
He was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School and Butler University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
He also served honorably in the United States Army as a member of the Army Reserves.
Don was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance for 33 years and retired as a Senior Vice President. During the latter part of his tenure, he served on the Board of Directors of The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. After his retirement, he served as Deputy to the Greencastle Township Assessor for two years, and then served as Greencastle Township Assessor for four years. He also served on the Putnam County Property Tax Assessment Board of Appeals.
He enjoyed travel, golf, yardwork and the occasional casino outing. In a family of golfers, he was the first to record a hole-in-one.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Harding.
Don was a loving, devoted, and supportive husband, father, and grandfather, and is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Patricia, two sons, Scott (Brenda) of Clinton, and Craig of Danville, a granddaughter, Alyssa Hess of Terre Haute, two grandsons, Brady Hess of Clinton and Brandon Bekkering of Indianapolis.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home.
Private graveside services will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association, of the American Cancer Society.
