Obituary of Mary M Berry
The Lord came and took Mary Margaret Berry home on March 13, 2012. Mary was 96 years old, born December 7, 1915 in Putnam County, the daughter of Tarquin and Jesse (Willen) Hawkins. From a very young age, she lived with her grandparents, John Andrew and Mary (Moffett) Hawkins. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School “class of 1933”. Mary was a homemaker and helped her husband, of 46 years, Harold Martin Berry farm. She was a member of the Putnamville United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Women, where she had served as a district delegate; a board member with AARP; on the Council on Aging with Area 7; active with the Putnam County Senior Center, helping with the Euchre Club; and worked on the Warren Township Election Board. She was an avid gardener and loved flowers and to be outdoors. Survivors include her children, Milton W. (Mary) Berry of Greencastle, Carolyn A. Shuee of Greencastle and Florida, Virginia A. (Howard) Stephens of New Mexico, H. Keith (Sharyl) Berry of Greencastle, Mary E. (John) Lash of Brazil, and Jack (Janae) Berry of Greencastle; eleven grandchildren, Darren W. Berry, Travis C. Berry, Brent A. Shuee, Bill Shuee, Brian Berry, Donna Hines, Mandy Slater, Matthew Lash, Jess Berry, Jacob Berry, and Jenna Berry; thirteen great grandchildren, Zach Shuee, Zane Shuee, Graham Shuee, Mac Shuee, Brynne Shuee, Bailey Shuee, Justin Berry, Collin Berry, Cailyn Hines, Payton Hines, Hayden Slater, Hank Martin Slater, and Hannah Slater; Mary sister’s son, Jay LaMont Forsyth, and daughter, Janelle (Forsyth) Babcock . She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Verna Ruth (Hawkins) Forsyth, a half-brother, John Hawkins; son-in-law, Bob Shuee; and a daughter-in-law, Rita Berry. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Rev Barry Bostrom officiating. Interment to follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Hopkins-Rector funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, March 16, 2012.
