Obituary of George Henry Bonney
George H. Bonney, 82, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. George was born on October 11, 1935 in Bridgeport, Connecticut and was a resident of Virginia since 1972. Mr. Bonney served as an officer in the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves in 1968 with the rank of Captain. He worked for 24 years with the MTMC Transportation Engineering Agency, Newport News, Virginia and retired from this Agency in February 1996. George graduated from Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont in 1958 and from the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1970 with BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics. More than anything, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. George liked traveling, golf, building and flying control line model airplanes, and his computer. He was also a big NY Mets, NY Yankees, and NY Giants fan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judith Miller Bonney; sister, Virginia Ofinemuller of Indiatlantic, Florida; and his children, Deborah Lynch, George H. Bonney, Jr. and wife Janet, Laurenda Underwood, and Brenda Starek and husband David. Mr. Bonney and his wife have been blessed with 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia and his parents, George T. and Florence S. Bonney. The family will receive friends from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia on Friday, January 12, 2018. A Traditional Latin Requiem Funeral Mass will be held at St. Benedict’s Parish Church, 521 McCosh Drive, Chesapeake, Virginia at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 13, 2018. A private committal service will be held at a later date at Norwich University Cemetery, Northfield, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics Wayne County, 901 E. Ash Street, Goldsboro, North Carolina 27533, Local Coordinator : D’Leeshia Lee (919)739-7489.
