Obituary of Nancy Strawderman Stearn
Mrs. Nancy Strawderman Stearn, 74, a resident of Rockingham, VA, died May 22, 2018 at Harrisonburg Health and Rehab Center. A daughter of the late Alfred Leon and Frances Lambert Strawderman, she was born on August 10, 1943 in Harrisonburg. Nancy was a hairdresser for 36 years and a school bus driver for 34 ½ years for Rockingham County. She was a lifelong resident of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County and had worked for the Rockingham County Recreation Department Summer Playground Program for 10 years. Nancy was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, serving as Director of Music for 36 years; and most recently attended Manor Memorial United Methodist Church in New Market, VA. She was the author of a published book titled “Life at the Jail”. On June 8, 1963 she married DeLee Stearn of Rockingham, VA who survives. Also surviving is a sister, Joyce Early and husband “Charles” of Winchester, VA; a brother, Al “Dick” Strawderman, Jr. of Broadway; special friends, Phyllis Puffenberger, Linda Edmonds, Lois Bowman, Carolyn White, Dot Misner, Janet Messick and Sherrill Shafer; a number of nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews. Her father, Sheriff Al “Dick” Strawderman, preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1987 and her mother died on Jan. 24, 1999. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 25, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Lacey Springs Cemetery with Rev. Dan Agnew and Rev. Ray Edmonds officiating.
