Earl D. Slone, Sr.
January 30, 1942 – March 18, 2020

Earl D. Slone, Sr., 78 of Huntington passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Markle Health and Rehabilitation. He was a 1961 graduate of Tekonsha High School. Earl had worked at Marshall Lanes from 1962 – 1966 in Marshall, Michigan, Gemco in Andrews from 1966 – 1979 and Sportsmobile from 1979 – 2010. He was an active and hard worker. He did drafting, carpentry, woodworking, model trains and kits. Earl enjoyed music, making home movies, model cars and Saturday morning cartoons and was the Monopoly King. He also enjoyed rummage sales, wrestling and his coffee. His grandchildren were his world. Earl loved his wife of 53 years and was thought of as a super hero to his family and his grandchildren who called him PaPa.
Earl was born on January 30, 1942 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, the son of Willie and Lizzie (Shepherd) Slone.
He was united in marriage to Madelyn Kornmeyer on July 14, 1962. Madelyn preceded him in death on September 19, 2015.
Survivors include four daughters: Lora (Steve) Roberts, Missy (Junior) Vebert, Jo Slone, Ruby Jones all of Huntington; three sons: Earl (Andrea) Slone, Jr of Fort Wayne; Mike Slone of Andrews; Mitch Slone of Huntington; a sister: Janet Sue Griffith of Tekonsha, MI; 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Dennis Slone; five brothers: Robert Slone, Bill Slone, Jimmy Slone, Bobby Joe Slone, Charles Slone and four sisters: Osie Noblit, Alpha Jean Blevins, Irene Dickenson and Josephine Slone.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at 2:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana. We will be following the CDC’s guidelines for Social Distancing and Social Gathering Limits.
Memorial donations can be made out to Parkinson’s Association or American Diabetes Association in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
