Obituary of Donald Mark Higgins
Donald Mark Higgins, 92, went to be with his Lord and savior on November 10, 2013 in Fishers, IN. He was born on May 22, 1921 to Mark and Mary Higgins of Flint, MI. Don is survived by his children, Mary Ruth (Scott) Neal of Brighton, MI and James Mark (Nancy) Higgins of Fishers, IN; his beloved grandchildren, Emilie and Kirk Higgins, Ryan Turmell and Scott, and Dave and Tom Neal. Don was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, two grandchildren and his beloved wife Betty, whom he married in 1944 and enjoyed a wonderful life together for 67 years. He graduated from the General Motors Institute in Flint, MI during which time, he served during World War II in the US Army Air Force, training as a glider pilot at Lubbock Army Airfield (Reese AFB), TX. Don was also involved with building armored tanks in Detroit, MI. After the war, Don became an Electrical Underbody Engineer at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren, MI for 40 years. Upon his retirement, Don and Betty moved to Florida, where he pursued his hobbies of painting many beautiful pictures for family and friends. He also created many whimsical wood carvings, volunteered weekly at Blake Hospital, and enjoyed gardening and beachcombing. He will be fondly remembered for his desire of chocolate malteds, pecan pancakes and caramel corn. His family wishes to thank People First Hospice and Hamilton Trace for their patience and loving care.
