Obituary of James Jim C. Wilgus
James C. Wilgus (1943-2013) James Casper “Jim” Wilgus, 70, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida, where he was a resident for over 20 years. Born July 10, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of Merle Casper and Regina Katherine (Claise) Wilgus. He was raised in Tell City, Indiana from 1944-1952, Shelbyville, Indiana from 1952-1956 and Indianapolis through his graduation from Scecina Catholic High School in Indianapolis in 1961. He attended Marian College in Indianapolis and then embarked on a 15-year career with Prudential Life Insurance Corporation, with posts both in Indianapolis and Kokomo. He continued to pursue various endeavors in the insurance industry in Indiana and eventually in Florida, where he was led to Orlando in 1978, and ultimately to Southwest Florida in 1992. Surviving are his mother, Regina K. Wilgus of Indianapolis; his wife of 49 years, Terry McDonnell Wilgus of Port Charlotte, Florida; sons James S. Wilgus of Merrillville, Indiana and Jeffrey J. Wilgus of Leesburg, Georgia daughter Maria W. Greenberg of Port Charlotte, Florida; sisters Kathy J. Clark of Lawton, Oklahoma and Beth Ann Kornegay of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; seven grandchildren: Erin, Bryan, Lisa and Matthew Greenberg in Florida; and Bradley, Logan and Phillip Wilgus in Washington State; and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Merle Wilgus in 1997, and a nephew, Daniel Wilgus Clark in March 2013. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 13 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary at 1307 N. Shadeland Ave. in Indianapolis. Visitation will continue on Saturday, September 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary, with prayers held at 11:30 a.m. preceding a motorcade procession to the church. A funeral mass will follow at 12:00 p.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church at 4052 E. 38th St. in Indianapolis; entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
