Winifred M. Heinen Bower,
94, of Indianapolis, departed this life January24th. Winnie was born March 31, 1917 in Ambia, IN to the late John M. and Ella (McGuire) Heinen. She earned her teaching certificate in 1939 from Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN. In 1968 she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Butler University. Her teaching career spanned 30 years, with most of that at school #54 in Indianapolis Public Schools.
Winnie was an active and dedicated member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister and assisted the Bereavement Committee in addition to being active with the women’s group. She also enjoyed playing bridge, bowling and traveling with friends. Winnie was an active member of the Alumni Association of St. Mary’s of Notre Dame anda devoted volunteer to the Guardian Angel Guild.
Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Bower; daughter, Margaret Ann Baase and brothers, Jack, James D. and Edward Heinen.
She is survived by her daughters, Sue Ellen (Carmen) Grap and Ann (Mike) Holmes; sons, Michael J. (Diane) Bower, J. Fred (Sara) Bower and William Patrick (Lynn) Bower; son-in-law, Andrew J. Baase; sister, Genevieve Swoyer; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2012 from 4 – 8 Pm at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00PM Saturday, January 28th in Holy Spirit Catholic Church with calling there beginning at 11:00AM. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Kentland, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to Guardian Angel Guild.
