Ina B Carpenter

Ina B. Carpenter, 94, grandmother of Billy Suffield, passed away on January 7th, 2019, with family by her side. Ina was born to Albert and Minnie Bell Burton on April 30th, 1924 in Columbia, Kentucky. Ina graduated from St. Bernard High School in Cincinnati, OH. She went on to marry William Carpenter on June 21st, 1947. He passed in February 29th, 1993. Ina and her husband worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in Los Alamos, New Mexico for several years. Ina volunteered often and was very active in her community. While raising her younger daughter, Barby, Ina served as room mother in her school. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Art Club, president of the Newcomer's Club in Gas City, Wapahani Girl Scout Council leader troop 110, and Cookie Cupboard. When she wasn't volunteering, Ina had a green thumb and loved to care for her plants. She always loved plants over flowers. Her grandson, Billy, and his children brought her the most happiness after her husband passed. Ina leaves behind her daughters, Barby Suffield of Kokomo and Susan Turner; sister Mary Louise Harju of Springfield, MO; grandson William "Billy" (Savanna) Suffield of Kokomo; great-grandchildren Izabella, William, and Noah Suffield; and several nieces and nephews. Ina is preceded in passing by her parents; her husband; and 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 11th at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 12th at 1:00 PM also at the mortuary. Ina will be laid to rest at Grant Memorial Park following the service.
