Obituary of Minnie G. Bassett
Minnie G. (Meeks) Bassett, 91, was called Home on November 6th, 2018. Minnie was born to James and Elsie Meeks on October 22nd, 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee. Minnie graduated from Oil Trough High School near Newport, Arkansas. She moved to Kokomo where she met and married Paul E. Taskey on June 21, 1948. He preceded her in passing on December 26th, 1996. Later she married Charles W. Bassett on February 17, 2001. He preceded her in passing on Novmeber 11th, 2014. Minnie worked at Stellite, Kingstons, Turners Department Store, and Carl Ann Clothing Store. Later she became a Licensed Realtor and worked at Pencek Realty and Cheek Reality. Minnie was an amazing cook, who enjoyed having family and friends over for dinner. Everyone fought over her yeast rolls. Minnie was a very social person who enjoyed traveling. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church where she made many friends. Minnie loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They will always remember helping her make popcorn balls at Halloween time. Minnie will be dearly missed. Minnie leaves behind her daughter Gail Gray and husband Richard, her son David Taskey and his wife Patty; siblings Howard Meeks, Letitia Burrow, Patricia Ann Dick and sister-in-law Joy Meeks; 3 grandchildren Bryan, Craig (Monica), and Grant (Ashlie) Taskey; and 13 great-grandchildren Elijah Gray, Sofia, Mariana, Grace, Liliana, Griffin, Oliver, Elliott, David, Garret, Lincoln, Lydia, and Juliet Taskey; and many nieces and nephews. Minnie is preceded in passing by her parents; her husbands; siblings James Meeks, John Meeks, Henrietta Meeks, Carolyn Sue Breymier, Robert Meeks; and grandson Ritchie Gray. Friends and family may call from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, November 11th, at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 12th, also at the mortuary. Pastor Kerry Williams will officiate. Minnie will be laid to rest at Kokomo Memorial Park following the service. Memorial contributions can be directed to Grace Baptist Church, 2818 S. Park Rd. Kokomo,IN. The Family would like to extend a special thank you to the Neuro Trauma Unit staff at St. Vincent Hospital on 86th street in Indianapolis for their wonderful care and compassion.
