Obituary of Douglas W Ketring
Douglas Ketring, 58 of Laurel, died on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2018 at his residence. Douglas, a son of David K. and Betty M. Risch Ketring, was born December 22, 1959 in Great Lakes, Illinois. He attended area schools and graduated from Union County High School in 1979. Douglas proudly enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country until the loss of his leg required him to retire. During retirement, Douglas advanced his schooling through Indiana University-East and IUPUI; graduating from the Indiana University School of Social Work as a certified Drug & Alcohol Counselor. Douglas formerly served as Commander for the United States Disabled American Veterans Chapter #90 Franklin County and volunteered at the Warren Lee Children’s Home in Richmond, Indiana. He was a member of the American Legion Post #77 and attended church at Harmony Living Word Assembly. In his leisure time, Douglas enjoyed fishing, traveling, riding snowmobiles and four wheelers. Douglas had a love for life and entertaining ways that always left his family and friends smiling. Douglas is survived by his wife: Michelle Leedom Ketring; his mother: Betty M. Ketring, of Liberty; his step-sons and their spouses: Bobby Hampshire and Kelly; Kyle Hampshire and Loretta, of Cannon, Kentucky; his siblings and their spouses: Dave Ketring and Ticky of Pensacola, Florida; Jim Ketring and Mandi of Liberty; Phil Ketring and Susan of Franklin; Debbie Blevins and Jessie of Liberty; his mother–in-law: Jo Leedom of Greenville, Ohio; two brothers-in-law and their spouses; his grandchildren: Danielle, Ethan, Nathan, Atlee and Bentlee; his nephew, Jason Ketring and his niece, Riley Blevins; his beloved dogs: Floki and Beau. Douglas is preceded in death by his father, David K. Ketring and his father-in-law, Ronald Leedom. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Pastor Dean VanWinkle officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery with graveside military honors conducted. Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. where memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
