Jerald D. Petro

Jerald D. Petro, 78, of Liberty, died Monday, March 25, 2013, Reid Hospital, Richmond. Jerald was born in Union County, March 18, 1935, to John T. and Mary Elizabeth Creek Petro. In 1953, he graduated from Short High School in Liberty and continued his education at Indiana University with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. On August 3, 1956, he was married to the former Nancy Ross at Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church. For over 44 years, Jerald was employed with Perfect Circle throughout the country, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, Liberty Lions, Liberty Lodge #58 F. & A.M. and served on the Liberty Town Council for three terms. When he was younger, he served as the chairman of the Young Republicans in Rush County and later worked with Senator Lugar’s campaign team. Jerald enjoyed people and never met a stranger, however his family always came first. He was always eager to give freely to others. He enjoyed telling stories, fishing, riding his motorcycle and spending winters in Pine Island, Florida. Jerald is survived by his wife of over 56 years, Nancy; three children and their spouses: Jerald D. “Pete” Petro, II and Rhonda of Liberty; Becky L McNabb and John of Clayton; Jeff Petro and Lori of Ft Wayne; two brothers and their wives: Donald E. Petro and Linda of Fountain City; John T. “Ted” Petro and Kay of Falls Church, VA; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents, Jerald was preceded in death by an infant son: Michael Wayne Petro who died December 31, 1958. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
