Robert Lee Pence Sr.

Robert L. Pence, Sr., 80, of Liberty, Indiana passed away unexpectedly at his residence, on Tuesday December 26, 2017. A Connersville native, Bob was born January 5, 1937 to Francis Darwin and Mary Faye Pence and graduated from Connersville High School in 1956. He retired from Mac Machine and Metal Works after a forty year career as a tool and die specialist. Bob owned and operated the Whitewater Valley Gun Club since 1972 in Liberty, Indiana . He was an avid sportsman, hunter and shooter. He was a member of the United States International Muzzle Loading Team since 1977--traveling the world and brought home the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals numerous times. He broke the World Record in Germany in 2014, becoming the current World Champion. He was a skilled gunsmith making shotguns for himself and others, including percussion and flint shotguns he used in his competitions. He recently won the National Championship in Friendship Indiana. Bob donated several of his trophies to be re-purposed for youth sports. He was a dedicated family man and loved his children and grandchildren.Bob was a member of First Baptist Church in Connersville and a Life Member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited and The Shotgun Squad of the United States International Muzzle Loading Team. Bob is survived by his sisters: Darlene Nye of Nevada and Shirley Fling of California, and his daughters: Sherri Pence Rawson of California and her children Kyle Rawson and Sarah Rawson. Linda Darlene Pence of Liberty, Indiana, and her child Wyatt Pence. His wife’s daughters: Kelly Westerfeld of Metamora and her children Brooke Gronning, Joshua Burch, Jake Burch, Dylan Westerfeld, and Samuel Westerfeld. Rhonda Vickers of Connersville and her children, Ryan Hubbard, Courtney Hubbard, and Matthew Hubbard, and her grandchildren Lila Hubbard, Cameron Hubbard and Kaiden Wright. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce E. Nutty Pence and his children: Yvonne Lee Pence and Robert Lee Pence, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 1201 N. Grand Avenue, Connersville, Indiana with Pastor Mal Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Springersville Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Connersville.
