George "Mike" Ellis McCauley, Jr.

George “Mike” Ellis McCauley, Jr., 79, of Lynchburg, passed away, Sunday, August 17, 2014, at the Avante’ Nursing Home. He was the husband of Carol Anderson McCauley. Born July 10, 1935, in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late George Ellis McCauley, Sr. and the late Lucy Janis Mitchell McCauley .
Mike was a retired machinist for B&W, where her served for 38 ½ years. He then worked as a clerk at Walmart. Mike was also a member of Fairview Christian Church. Mike also served our country in the United States Air Force.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by two brothers, Aubrey E. McCauley and Wilson McCauley and one sister, Earline Jamerson.
In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his children, Diane M. Scott and her husband Charles W. of Lynchburg, Bruce Layne and his wife Trina of Forest, Sherrie Walsh of Forest and Debbie Keatts and her husband Ed of Evington; one sister, Joyce M. Carwile of Lynchburg; one special brother-in-law, Floyd Anderson of Sarasota, FL; five grandchildren, Suzanne McCauley, Tommy Walsh, Jr., Stephanie Washburne and her husband Nathan, Jennifer Keatts and T.J. Layne; one great-grandchild, Kaley Washburne; two nephews, Darris Carwile and Derrick Carwile; and a special friend, Bobby Zickafoose of Rustburg.
A graveside service will be conducted, 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Jonathan Falwell officiating. Military Honors will also be presented by the American Legion Post 36, Altavista, Virginia.
The family will receive friends, 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence of Diane Scott.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Lynchburg Humane Society.
