Obituary of Guy Almond Smith
Guy Almond Smith, 80, of Rustburg, died, Saturday, February 9, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Janice Berry Smith. Born July 21, 1932, in Jacksonville, FL, he was the son of the late Guy Almond Sr. and the late Nellie Goodwin Smith. Guy taught school for 20 years before retiring from Campbell County Schools, and he was a member of Falling River Baptist Church. He received his Bachelor’s degree in education and a Master’s degree in counseling. Guy also served our country for 20 years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era, where he was a safety officer in charge of nuclear arms. He was also a District Governor of the Lion’s Club, where he served for 25 years and he was also a Kentucky Colonel. In addition to his wife, Guy is survived by his sons, Guy A. Smith III of Florida; Thomas Smith and his wife Rita of Concord and Mark Smith and his wife Amy of Florida; one sister, Caroline Smith of Richmond; seven grandchildren, Azalea, Guy IV, Gia, Alexia, Hunter, Dylan and Summer; and three great-grandchildren, Thomas, Issac and Ava Lee. A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Falling River Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Williams officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 16.
