Obituary of Stephen Russell Booth
Stephen Russell Booth, 92, of Concord went to be with his Lord Saturday, April 27, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Campbell County, February 24, 1921, he was a son of the late George Marvin Booth and Katie Thompson Booth. Russell was a farmer for much of his life and proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. Specifically he served with the 2nd Division, Company K, 9th Infantry Regiment, overseas through Northern Ireland, England and France. For his service he was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star and the World War II Victory Medal. Russell was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church for the past 55 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Alma Nash Booth, one brother, John E. Booth and two sisters, Virginia B. Coffee and Lura B. Carwile. He is survived by one daughter, Doris Booth Thompson and her husband Tommy of Hopewell; two brothers, George M. Booth, Jr., Clarence A. Booth and Gladys B. Patterson all of Lynchburg; one granddaughter, Diane Marie Bryant and her husband Forrest of Madison Heights; one grandson, David Wayne Austin and his wife Theresa of Spout Spring and five great grandchildren, Kaity Taylor, Ryan Taylor, Stephanie Bryant, Chad Bryant and Logan Austin. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel and at other times at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor Jonathan Falwell officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.
