Obituary of Dallas Elwood Campbell
Dallas Elwood "Cotton" Campbell born in Woodson, Virginia on November 20, 1939 to Wilson and Zane Meredith Campbell entered peacefully into eternal rest with his lord and savior on April 5, 2013 at the age of 73. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his wife of 55 years Judy and two sons Steven and Joseph. Dallas was the third of four children. In addition to his wife and sons, Dallas is survived by his sister Betty Helterbran, Brother Danny Campbell and many cousins. Dallas is also survived by many nieces and nephews all of which he loved very dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and Brother Lilbourne "Skip" Campbell. In 1956, Dallas began his 45 year long career with a 5 year apprenticeship with The United Association of Steamfitters Local 602 located in Washington D. C. While serving his apprenticeship Dallas also honorably served 7 years in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. After completing his apprenticeship Dallas spent the next 40 years building a distinguished career in industrial construction management. Dallas’s career focused on managing the construction of power generation and petrochemical facilities worldwide. A few highlights include the world’s first Barley to Ethanol Refinery, expansion of the world’s largest Natural Gas plant, 3 Nuclear Energy facilities and 11 Coal Fired power generation facilities. Later in his career Dallas decided to continue his education and earned his bachelor’s degree in Business in 1995. Dallas enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, sports and travelling. Most of all, Dallas was a family man. He was actively involved in his children’s lives and never missed an opportunity to support and encourage them in any of their endeavors. He never met a stranger, many times in Dallas’s life he went out of his way to help someone in need. For those that did not have the opportunity to meet or spend time with Dallas, he was one of the most selfless, giving, happy, devoted, dedicated individuals that anyone could ever be. Dallas was most of all a wonderful human being who was committed to his faith, his church, and his family. Dallas was a faithful member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church in Amherst, Virginia until his health would no longer permit his physical attendance. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. The family will hold a visitation and welcomes friends and relatives to attend on Friday April 12, 2013 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Whitten Monelison Chapel. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 13, 2013 at 1:00 pm also at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Allan Monfils officiating. Burial will follow at Amherst Cemetery.
