Ruby Lee (Campbell) Mays

Ruby Lee Campbell Mays, age 93 of Forest, widow of Jack Lee Mays, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018.
She was born on July 28, 1924 in Piney River, daughter of the late Josh Campbell and the late Ora Lee Maddox Campbell.
Ruby was a member of Central Baptist Church and had retired from Craddock Terry. She loved gardening almost as much as she did spending time with her grandkids.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son and daughter, Jack Junior Mays and Nancy Middleton; five brothers and sisters, Herbert Campbell, Lena Angus, Henry Campbell, Ed Campbell and Betty Davis.
She is survived by four children, Joyce Newman and her husband Jimmy, Leonard Ray Mays and his special friend, Betty Hendricks, John Wayne Mays and his wife Tina, and Calvin Mays and his wife Beth; two sisters, Effie Mays and Virginia Manley; a brother, Clayton Campbell. She is also survived by twenty two grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as a special nephew, James Campbell.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Whitten Monelison Chapel with Pastor Larry Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow at Amherst Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 pm on Monday, April 2, 2018 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Central Baptist Church, 1415 Florida Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501.
