Obituary of Calvin Gerard Champlin
Calvin Gerard Champlin, 89, passed away on December 4, 2018, at Memorial Regional Hospital in Mechanicsville, Va. Mr. Champlin was born in Queens, N.Y., and was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School. Mr. Champlin served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Supply Sergeant. The majority of his working life was spent driving tractor trailers for the A&P Grocery Company. He was a founding member of the John A. King Benevolent Society (named after his father-in-law) and later President of the same organization, helping coworkers in times of need. He was also active for a number of years in the East Rockaway, N.Y. Lions Club, where he served as President. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and supported his son and grandson’s Wake Forest Deacons. Mr. Champlin is survived by his wife, Patricia, with whom he shared 67 years; his son, Mike; his grandson, John; and his daughter-in-law, Betty. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Anna; his brothers, Al and Ray; and a sister, Doris. Mr. Champlin wished to thank the staff of Bickford and Hanover Rehab Center for all the care they provided him during the last several years. He also wanted to especially to thank Debbie Harper for all she had done for him and his wife as part of a special friendship. The visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, at the Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Va. 23113. The interment will be private with family and close friends in attendance. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to your local Lions Club to assist them in their good works.
