Obituary of Fleming Vaughan Austin
Fleming V. Austin, retired, Senior V.P. of Sovran Bank (now Bank of America) and Central Virginia Bank in Powhatan passed away at the age of 82 on September 28, 2013. A good man is one who is loved for the warmth and caring in his heart. A wise man is one who teaches by the fine example of his life. A strong man is one who has worked hard and always done his best for his family. A successful man is one who has earned the respect and admiration of others. A man who is good, wise, strong, and the truest kind of success – a man who was loved more than he could possibly have known. Fleming was a Navy Veteran serving aboard the U.S.S. Leyte during the Korean War. After several years with the Central National Bank he joined First Merchants National Bank in 1961. He retired from F & M (Sovran Bank) in 1986 as a Senior V.P. and joined Central Virginia Bank as Executive V.P. After retiring from CVB in 1993 he served on the Board of Directors for 10 years. He attended John Marshall High School and was a graduate of The American Institute of Banking, The University of Virginia Banking School and the Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. He served with several civic associations in Richmond and Chesterfield. Fleming is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joy Hall Austin, one son, Michael V. Austin, three grandchildren, Nicole M. Austin, Shane V. Austin and Erika K. Phelps, and 4 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 sister and 1 brother.
