Benjamin Hector Barnes Jr.

Benjamin H. Barnes, Jr., 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk. He was predeceased by his mother, Mayme Louise Bray; father, Benjamin Hector Barnes, Sr.; step father, Otis T. Bray and son, Randolph T. Barnes. Benjamin was born on August 10, 1926, he was a graduate of Maury High School, 1944 and he continued on with his education and received an Associate degree from William and Mary College. He was a veteran of WWII in the Army Air Corp and US Marine Corps. Benjamin was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church and also a Mason, former member of the Norfolk Moose Lodge. For his career, he was a Sales Manager for Fairmont Bld. Supplies for 44 ½ years when he retired on January 25, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary C. “Tina” Barnes; son, Jeffrey Benjamin Barnes of Roanoke; grandchildren, Jeanne Lynn Barnes of Fairfax; Mathew Benjamin Barnes of Roanoke; stepson, Butch Beecham; step grandchildren, Holly Tabor and J.D. Beecham along with his loving companion, his baby girl Ella. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm, Friday, at Smith and Williams Funeral Home Norview. A graveside service will be conducted at Rosewood Memorial Park at 1pm, Saturday, to be officiated by the Rev. Fred Braswell.
