Obituary of Benjamin L. Barry
Benjamin “Benny” L. Barry, 80, of Norfolk, passed away in his home June 9, 2010. Born in Norfolk, May 3, 1930, he was the son of the late William and Pauline Barry. Benny is predeceased by his siblings, Betty Siedel, Marjorie Staley, Billy Barry, and Carole Flowers. Benny was a member of the Ocean View Democratic Club, the VFW, the American Legion, and the Ocean View Seniors Golf Association. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Benny was a popular local boxer in the 40’s and was well known as the “Flaming Redheaded South Paw” from Ocean View. Benny will be dearly missed by his precious wife of 40 years, Claudene Barry; children, Carole Penrod, Tim Barry, and Bill Barry; sister, Paula Curtis; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. A celebration of Benny’s life will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, June 14, 2010 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. Entombment in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
