Obituary of Barbara Ford Duff
DUFF, Barbara Ford, 88, of Richmond passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dr. James Scott Duff, Jr.; parents Harvey Linwood Ford and Melba Pingle Ford; and sister Marguerite Ford Brumitt. She is survived by daughters Sheryl Duff Highfill (Sam) and Barbara Scott Duff, and son James Scott Duff, III (Cheryl) and grandchildren James Scott Duff IV (Ashton), Christopher Robert Duff, Jacob Tillman Highfill and Samantha Stewart Highfill. Barbara was born and lived the majority of her life in Richmond. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Averett College. A homemaker and consummate social planner, Barbara cherished friendships and loved planning parties from birthday and graduation celebrations to 4th of July parties at the river and large Christmas eve dinners for family and friends. She was also a lifelong member of the Country Club of Virginia. Barbara gave of her time freely by volunteering for several local organizations. She served on the Retreat Hospital’s Junior Auxiliary Board for many years and volunteered in the hospital gift shop. Later she volunteered at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and spent eleven years helping in the garden shop. She was a member of The Tuckahoe Woman’s Club for thirty-three years. She enjoyed their painting classes and often exhibited her artwork in their annual art show. Barbara was a member of River Road Presbyterian Church and was active in the Women of the Church and the Knitting Guild for many years. In her spare time, Barbara enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the river, painting, gardening and creating beautiful needlework. Her love for her dogs was only surpassed by her love of her husband, children and grandchildren. Due to COVID19 restrictions, internment will be private; however, the family very much appreciates the care and support from friends and the Cedarfield Pinnacle Living community. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to River Road Presbyterian Church, 8960 River Road, Richmond, VA 23229 or to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, 1800 Lakeside Ave, Richmond, VA 23228.
