IN THE CARE OF
Woody Funeral Home-Parham
Hubbard, David M., 77, of Henrico, went to be with the Lord on Friday afternoon, March 9, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, Millard J. Hubbard and Hazel M. Hubbard. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carole G. Hubbard; daughter, Lorinda H. Butler and her husband Charles H. Butler; son David G. Hubbard; and two granddaughters, Allyson Brooke Butler and Katherine Grace Hubbard. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Judy G. Willard and her husband, Donald J. Willard, and their three children, Amy W. Battaile, Andrea W. Wilson, and Glenn G. Willard.
Born on June 5, 1940 in Parkersburg, WV, he graduated from St. Christopher’s School in 1959. He attended the University of Virginia; he received his Bachelor of Arts in 1963 and Masters Degree in 1965 from Mr. Jefferson’s School. Beginning his career as a high school teacher, he undertook the necessary training and examinations to become certified as an insurance underwriter, working on large commercial and business accounts for Aetna, USF&G, St. Paul, and finally Travellers.
David had a deep love of travel, cats, art, music and literature. He was not only proud of the library of music and literature he collected over the years, but was eager to loan, share, and discuss his library with other people. Although a man of deep faith later in life, his philosophy could well be summed up by William Faulkner’s pithy comment, “The end of wisdom is to dream high enough to lose the dream in the seeking of it.” Given his love of literature, he volunteered for Virginia Voice, reading literary works and news aloud over the radio for the blind. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church for over 30 years, regularly volunteered for the Richmond Symphony and was an active member of the Kiwanis Club.
David’s family thanks the staff at Our Lady of Hope for the kindness and care he received over the past fourteen months. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March, 16, 2018 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 8787 River Rd, followed by a graveside service at Hollywood Cemetery, 412 S. Cherry Street, at 2:00 p.m. Flowers can be sent to Woody Funeral Home, or donations can be made in David’s name to Virginia Voice, All Saints Episcopal Church, or the SPCA.
