IN THE CARE OF
Woody Funeral Home-Parham
Ward John Campbell, 77, of Richmond, Virginia, went to be with The Lord on Thursday, August 15, 2013, after battling pancreatic cancer. He was born in Minot, North Dakota and spent his childhood in Minnesota and New York. He was an Eagle Scout, a proud graduate of the University of Virginia (a Wahoo to the end), an Army captain, a career employee of Bell Telephone and Verizon and an active Optimist and Rotarian. Ward could whistle a symphony, recite rhymes with lightning speed, and loved a good joke - but not at another's expense, was a loyal and caring friend, and was one of the kindest men we know. He led a life of service through the Methodist church, his family, community, and friends.
Ward is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Susan Kendall and her husband, Michael; their children, Sarah and Robert, all of Fairfax, Virginia; son, John, of Great Falls, Virginia; and his partner, Janet Hutchinson.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, August 22, at Centenary Methodist Church, 411 East Grace Street. Friends are invited to join the family at their home following the funeral service. Burial with military honors will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, August 24 at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Diabetes Association, The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Virginia, or a charity of your choice.
