William Jennings West, 92, of Richmond, Virginia. passed away on January 5, 2013. Bill was born on November 14, 1920 in Evington, Virginia. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mabel Slusher West; a daughter, Ann W. Klipp and her husband, Ronald Klipp, of Richmond; a son, William J. "Jay" West Jr., of Chevy Chase, Md.; a brother, Edgar A. West, of Rocky Mount, Va.; and three grandchildren, Katie and John Klipp and William "Will" J. West III. Mr. West was a graduate of Virginia Tech and received a Master's Degree in Forestry from Duke University. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having served in the European Theater for three years where he was involved in seven campaigns and received the Bronze Star Medal. He was a charter member of Skipwith United Methodist Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars and retired after 37½years with the State Department of Taxation. The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., and where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Skipwith United Methodist Church, 2211 Skipwith Rd., Richmond, Va. 23294.
