Ann Marie, a year has passed already. Sorry we didn't connect last year, b you and the children are still in my prayers

Roger was a mentor and friend to all of us youngsters who lived in Fairholme Gardens where we grew up.  
My mum Greta bought a table tennis board, and Roger was the undisputed champion, as no other player could defeat him...even when given a huge lead! 
My brothers Albert, Cassius and Angus would do anything for Roger and we all loved and respected him.
To Maria and all the family I extend condolences on behalf of Mum and my brothers.

My sincere condolences on Roger's passing. I learned a fair bit from him, even though he is a year and a month to the day younger than me. We were next door neighbours and he taught me tennis. He will be sorely missed. Anna Marie, be strong. I believe your love for him is a great thing.

I am profoundly sad at Roger's passing. Being a childhood neighbour we had very many good times and experiences and my siblings, cousins and I are extremely fond of Roger. In fact we are actually family as auntie Kay and my dad's mother were cousins. Sincerest condolences to the entire family.

To the Howell family in Florida. I am very saddened by the loss of my childhood playmate. 
MEMORIES: Roger was 2 Yrs younger and lived just down the street. We were the third home built there in Fairholme gardens and they were the the second.  I recall building and flying kites, 
( Roger and I always disagreed about what was the best design—I’d find him taking my kite apart to do it the right way ) I recall playing cricket on the Kirton’s lot opposite KayWynLaRog, ( The name of his home created by Aunty Kay!!) before the home construction. We would laugh every evening when Uncle Alwyn would recline in his chair in the study and say :
 “ Cheese on bread and potato sauce this chair real soft” 
Roger developed a gargantuan appetite as he grew taller and yet more tall. His pre-dinner snack as an adolescent was an entire pack of 12 hot dogs and 12 buns!! I would tease him Re the pinafores he used to wear as a kid. When I returned at the end of one summer Roger was combing his huge Afro while standing in the corridor. He had grown sooo much  I walked right under his arm without having to bend.  It’s good that at that time  he did not decide to retaliate for all the torment I gave him at age 6 and 7 when I was taller. 
A-D, P, and Sandra who joined the neighborhood later all would recall fondly picking dunks,  going to San Remo beach and Mr Graham’s pool, building forts and playing running games. We all went separate ways as we grew older. Yet they were all there for me when Mom died in 2020 despite not having seen them for years and years This is the same for all of us, as we are all here to support Roger’s family if there is any thing we can do. I was lucky to be in the same class with the great Roger Howell every year from 1968 to 1975.  Roger made school fun.  He could be exceptionally funny.  He was a talented athlete - tennis and the high jump being his main sports.  He was proficient at languages, developing fluency in French and Spanish. He would also regale us in speaking Latin too. Roger was fearless and would not shirk from confronting the power of the headmaster if he had to.  And if all that wasn't enough, he was tall and handsome. He was more than a friend. He was everything you would wish to be yourself.  He was a legend among us at school.  Definitely an original.  Always what you would call "a hard act to follow".  I admired my friend a lot and I am glad I was able to tell him when we met in 2017. To Ann-Maria, Joel, Marisa and family I offer my condolences.

I will miss him a lot, I´ll always remember all the things that he taught me at work and his words like “Hey Maria, You´re smart I will teach you everything that I know”, or “Maria, you´re my friend let me practice Spanish with you”. He was definitely a wonderful person.

My sister Maria met and fell in love at the ages of 14 and 16( or 17) respectively. I remember how it all it all happened. My two sisters , Maria, Melanie and I, would go to our grandmother's house in St Michael after school before heading home to Christ Church. My grandmother lived across from Harrison College where Roger attended. Waiting in the Verandah for our Uncle Buddy to pick us up and take us home, Roger would walk by the house. One day he walked by and Maria who stood watch for Uncle Buddy and would summon us when he came wasn't there. Roger asked my grandmother who was at the window doing her crossword puzzle, where's the girl, and as they say, the rest is history. He was the best of the best, and now, he's at rest.

My sincerest condolences to Laura and Roger’s wife, children and grandchildren. Roger and I were doubles partners in many junior tournaments in Barbados and played together on Harrison College’s tennis team.

Roger's family lived next door to mine in Fairholme Gardens.
He was one of the older boys in the neighbourhood and he had a profound effect on me as he introduced me to fishing which is far and away my favourite activity.
He was also my introduction to rastafari at a time when they were viewed as the "scourge" of the island ... I wear dreadlocks to this day.
Even though we hadn't spoken for years I will miss his presence on this plane and I offer to his surviving family my deepest condolences.
May he rise in glory.

Growing up he was always the first to find humor in his own jokes with a chuckle,  we would follow up with laughter, sometimes unsure of what we were laughing at but finding it extremely funny.

My deepest condolences to Roger’s family, friends and loved ones. I thought the world of Roger as a “bigger boy” than I, growing up near his home in Dover and attending HC, his school as well. I admired his sense of fun and humor, his intellect and indeed his tennis skills.
