Obituary of Walter George Wolfe
Walter “George” Wolfe, aged 89, of Stafford, VA passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2018 at his home. He was raised in Blacksburg, VA and in Bradenton, FL where he became an Eagle Scout. George earned engineering degrees from Virginia Military Institute and New York University. He was an army colonel, licensed professional engineer and a Boy Scout adult leader. His thirty years in the army included wartime service in Korea and in Viet Nam where he commanded an engineer combat battalion. His military awards included the Legion of Merit and Bronze Star with “V”. He then joined an engineering firm for thirteen years where he supervised the design of several station and track sections of the Washington, DC metro system. In retirement, he collected toy trains and enjoyed working around his house and yard. He and a neighbor built the neighbor’s barn. An avid supporter of VMI, George attended many of his class reunions and helped organize several. He was proud of his family ancestry and enjoyed documenting the Wolfe and Alderman ancestral lines. Family visits in his Stafford home highlighted his retirement. In later years he was his wife’s devoted caregiver. Jean Alderman Wolfe, his wife, predeceased him. He is survived by his brother Jim; children Frances, John, Jim, Robert, and Tom; son in law Tom Michaels; daughters in law Kathy, Andrea, Charlotte, and Namratha; grandchildren Lisa Delvecchio and husband Robert, Robert Michaels, Adam and wife Lena, Daniel and wife Johanna, David and wife Alexis, and Robin; and nieces Christine and Karin Wolfe. He was the beloved patriarch of the Wolfe family and will be greatly missed by all. He will be interred with his wife Jean in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
