Joseph Daniel Christian

Joseph Daniel Christian, 96 passed away on January 12, 2013. A native of Athens, GA, he attended the University of Georgia and was an avid GA Bulldogs fan. He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Christian. He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Sawyer, her husband, Doug; grandson Jamie Sawyer, his wife Jennifer; granddaughter Lauren Woodard, her husband Mark plus 8 great grandchildren. Joe retired from the Virginian-Pilot/Ledger-Star after 42 years as a Pressman. He was a past member of the Kempsville Volunteer Fire Department, AFL-CIO COPE, the Norfolk Union Labor Council, and served in many aspects related to labor and politics in the Tidewater area. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 19, at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel.
